Elsa Salazar Named First Runner-up for Direct Service Professional of the Year
Elsa Salazar was chosen as first runner-up out of 45 nominees for the Direct Service Professional of the Year award by the Division of Developmental Disabilities. Elsa, joined by her family and Gompers' staff, was honored at a luncheon on September 14, 2011 at the Disability Empowerment Center.
During her four and a half years at Gompers, Elsa has shown a strong commitment to working with individuals with disabilities and was also selected by Gompers’ staff as the 2010 Employee of the Year.

Health Care Heroes Award!
Karolin was recognized at a celebratory breakfast on Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort.

Cheril Chilcoat, DTA Director, Recognized as Community Hero
On Thursday, May 19, Cheril Chilcoat, Gompers DTA Director, was recognized as part of KISS 104.7 FM's “KISS A HERO” promotion for her tireless and outstanding work on behalf of all the clients Gompers serves. Her nomination was read on air, and Cheril was honored at a KISS 104.7 FM breakfast meet and greet with Johnjay and Rich. CONGRATULATIONS, CHERIL!

Gompers Receives Community Grant from Catholic Healthcare West
On January 7, 2011, Catholic Healthcare West awarded Gompers Habilitation Center $15,000 to provide immediate access to affordable oral health treatment for 50 clients. Each client will receive an oral health evaluation, X-rays, two cleanings, fluoride treatment, periodontal maintenance, and free oral health aftercare instructions with each visit.
Presentation of the check was made during the Community Awards Reception held at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.
Boundless Playground at Gompers Now Open
In January 2010, Gompers began its campaign to fund the final phase of the accessible playground and garden project. Throughout 2009, Gompers received the full support of the community to complete the first phase of this project –the playground. Our next phase, the “Accessible Garden” will become a courtyard housing the garden installed with the help of our clients and several senior communities. Duet (Beatitudes) and Amber Pointe, a new senior development, has stepped up to become caretakers and act as a guide as we cultivate our garden to yield its splendor. With the extraordinary talents of the design team at Architectural Resources, our playground and garden will be an exquisite place of growth and creativity for Gompers' clients and the community.
